Terms and Conditions

1. The competition

1.1 The title of the competition is “The Data and Analytics Competition, sponsored by the Newcastle DNA Oliver Wyman office”.

1.2 Participants should enter their responses to competition in order to be eligible for “The Data and Analytics Scholarship, sponsored by the Newcastle DNA Oliver Wyman office”, as well as internship places in DNA Newcastle. Winners will be selected by the DNA judging panel. Entrants should not be enrolled in independent schools (/fee paying schools), this is in order to help raise university entry ambitions and remove financial barriers to higher education in general.

2. How to enter

2.1 The competition will run from Noon on 15th July 2024 (the "Opening Date") to Midnight on 28th February 2025 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.

2.2 All competition entries must be received by Oliver Wyman (DNA Newcastle) by no later than Midnight on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.

2.3 To enter the competition:
(a) Enter the competition online by submitting the online entry form provided on impact.oliverwyman.com/data-analytics-challenge by Closing Date.

2.4 Oliver Wyman will not accept:
(a) responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
(b) transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.

2.5 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2.6 The competition entries will be judged by a panel of judges. The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) will be final.

3. Eligibility

3.1 The competition is open to residents in the North East of England, except:
(a) employees of Oliver Wyman or its holding or subsidiary companies; companies;
(b) employees of agents or suppliers of Oliver Wyman or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or
(c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.
(d) Students enrolled in an independent school

3.2 Students must apply to University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Durham University or Newcastle University on their UCAS application in order to be considered for judgement and prizes.

3.3 In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize. Oliver Wyman may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

3.4 Oliver Wyman will not accept competition entries that are:
(a) plagiarized;
(b) automatically generated by computer;
(c) completed by third parties or in bulk;
(d) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; or
(e) incomplete.

3.5 Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.

3.6 Oliver Wyman reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

3.7 Competition entries cannot be returned.

4. The prize

4.1 The prizes are “The Data and Analytics Scholarship, sponsored by the Newcastle DNA Oliver Wyman office” as well as internship places within DNA Newcastle. Two “Data and Analytics Scholarship, sponsored by the Newcastle DNA Oliver Wyman office” will be provided (1 of £3,000/year and 1 of £1,000/year of university study up to a maximum of four years).

The first three places will be awarded an internship place at DNA Newcastle. Continuing financial support is dependent on successful progression to the following year of study.

4.2 The prize is supplied by Oliver Wyman DNA Newcastle (the "Supplier"). Oliver Wyman reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond Oliver Wyman’s control makes it necessary to do so.

4.3 The prize is not negotiable or transferable.

5. Winners

5.1 The decision of the judges nominated by Oliver Wyman is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

5.2 An interview may be held for some candidates to discuss their submission and ambitions

5.3 Oliver Wyman will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the email address provided with the competition entry.

6. Claiming the prize

6.1 The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

6.2 Oliver Wyman will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize within 14 days of the Announcement Date, Oliver Wyman reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

6.3 Oliver Wyman does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

7. Limitation of liability

Insofar as is permitted by law, Oliver Wyman, its affiliates, or subcontractors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize. Your statutory rights are not affected.

8. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights

8.1 Oliver Wyman does not claim any rights of ownership in your competition entry.

8.2 You agree that Oliver Wyman may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant Oliver Wyman a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.

9. Data protection and publicity

9.1 Oliver Wyman will only process your personal information as set out at the Oliver Wyman Privacy Notice.

10. General

10.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, Oliver Wyman may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

10.2 Oliver Wyman reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

10.3 These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England without reference to the principles of conflicts of laws thereof. Any dispute arising from these terms and conditions shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of England.
