Beth Fritchen

Partner, Actuarial

Beth is a Partner and head of the Chicago office of Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consulting, Inc.  She worked in the health insurance industry for over 30 years.  Her primary responsibilities
are in the area of health insurance consulting. Beth specializes in product development, underwriting, pricing and  financial modeling. In particular, she provides consulting services to state regulatory agencies, health insurance companies, and health care providers.

Relevant Experience

Expert in health insurance, medical claims and risk analysis. She has assisted multiple health plans and providers with understanding the risk of their population, through the evaluation of claims data, diagnosis information, characteristics of the population and benchmarking.

Senior products pricing including both Medicare Advantage bid development and Medicare Supplement products; as well as review and audits of these products.

Developing and reviewing Medicaid rates offered in Managed Medicaid programs on behalf of both health care plans and state Medicaid agencies.

Expert in the rules of the ACA with respect to product development, pricing and market strategy.

Assisted with the implementation of the ACA and review of rates for various state agencies.

Completed financial reporting, feasibility studies and forecasting for health plans entering new markets.

Expert in pricing of individual, small group and large group insurance rates. This would include the development of manual rates, as well as large group experience rating formula and algorithms.

Medical trend analysis for all segments.

Quantifying the financial impact of legislative proposals for health plans as well as consumers, including new regulations and rules and mandated benefits.

Expert witness testifying in individual and Medicare Supplement rate hearing for several states.

Education and Other Experience

Beth holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Beth is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Individual and Small Group Market Committee. She has authored several reports and studies related to the Small Group Employer Market and medical trends.
