Patrick is a Partner in the New York office of Oliver Wyman, a global strategy consultancy, and a member of the firm’s Health and Life Sciences practice. For the past 20 years, he has worked extensively with the senior leadership of health plans, health service companies, pharmacy benefit managers, health systems and other provider organizations, and large employers on a wide range of topics, such as ACA reform, consumer and retail health, government programs, customer experience design, and health technology. In addition, he also leads much of Oliver Wyman’s work on helping organizations drive success in their value-based health initiatives.
Developing a five-year corporate strategy for a large Blue plan, including an evaluation of target market segments, a new approach to provider engagement, an assessment of the organization’s capabilities, and a rationalization of existing subsidiaries and lines of business.
Creating the network strategy for a $10B+ regional insurer, including narrow and tiered options for specific lines of business, a new reimbursement model for value-based care, and a series of provider partnerships.
Driving the strategic and operational redesign of medical management at a large insurer. Key activities included expansion of case management, insourcing / outsourcing analysis, launch of a new clinical segmentation model, and initiation of a new org structure and staff performance metrics.
Creating a digital consumer engagement platform for a large health insurer, intended to improve health outcomes, create a differentiated experience, and reduce care costs.
Designing a value-based care collaboration model between a regional health plan and a large integrated delivery network, including care model design, risk-sharing reimbursement arrangements, and a series of co-branded products.
Creating an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) strategy and model design for a multi-state regional insurer, including leading negotiations with local market providers.
Refining the capabilities and organizational structure of the healthcare management function (e.g., contracting, disease management, informatics, etc.) of a single-state Blue health plan to reduce medical costs.
Defining the five-year, network-wide value-based health migration strategy for a large Blue plan, including PCMH, ACO, bundled payments, and provider enablement plays. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Patrick was a Principal in the Health Practice of Booz & Company (formerly Booz Allen Hamilton), and an Associate with ECRI, a boutique healthcare consulting and advisory firm.
Patrick holds an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and a BS in Molecular and Cell Biology from the Pennsylvania State University.
