Scott Ransom

Partner, Health and Life Sciences

Dr. Scott Ransom is a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences practice. He an advisor to health systems, academic medical centers, medical schools, physician groups, payers, and life sciences companies on topics related to strategy-enabled transformation, organizational effectiveness, partnership and growth strategy, restructuring and turnarounds, multi-lever cost reduction, clinical and research operations, digital health, governance, and physician performance.

Relevant Experience

Advised over 150 healthcare organizations including 7 of the top 10 hospitals and medical schools and 6 of the top 10 children’s hospitals as ranked by US News.

Worked with 5 of the largest 10 health insurance companies and 6 of the largest 10 health systems as measured by revenues.

Served as a consultant to healthcare organizations and governmental entities on six continents including most major US markets, Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, United Kingdom, Germany, Chile, China, Australia and others.

Led several comprehensive organizational transformations of health systems and medical schools including governance, strategy, organization design, clinical and research operations, physician practice, supply chain, revenue cycle optimization, back-office operations, and leadership development.

Led several business unit strategy, organization and operational improvements for top ranked children’s hospitals including operating room, sleep center, radiology department, and others.

Supported several payor-provider partnership agreements and value-based contracting agreements including one of the five nation’s largest payers with a top five 100+ hospital health system.

Prior to his consulting career, Scott served as a Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs of a university system, President of an Academic Health Science Center including medical school, SVP/Chief Quality Officer of an 8-hospital regional health system, and hospital Vice President for Medical Affairs. He was a tenured Professor in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Health Management and Policy and Director of the Program for Health Improvement and Leadership Development at the University of Michigan. He has been a NIH, NSF and VA funded investigator and has published over 150 articles and 10 books on topics related to healthcare management, quality, and women’s health.

Dr. Ransom is a fellow in several professional organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), American College of Surgeons (FACS), and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). He is a past President and Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives (FACPE). He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and delivered over 4000 babies as an obstetrician.

Scott enjoys hiking, mountaineering, yoga, travel, and teaching diving as a PADI Scuba Instructor.

Education and Other Experience

He earned several degrees including an MPH in clinical effectiveness at Harvard University, MBA at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, and graduated from medical school at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Pacific Lutheran University and graduated from Officer Candidate School of the United States Marine Corps.
